Our peopleAmy Powell
Amy Powell has consulted in the USA and Australia since 1985, and has been an executive coach since 1996. She has coached hundreds of managers over the years, enabling them to be more effective in leading their organisations and their people. She coaches general managers, executives and CEOs, helping them improve their influencing skills, communication, interpersonal relationships, delegating, networking, priority management and leadership presence. She works with some of Australia’s iconic financial services organisations, including Macquarie Bank, Westpac, and AMP, and coaches partners at Gilbert + Tobin, Sydney’s highly awarded law firm. She also coaches the leadership team at CARE Australia. Amy has successfully coached a variety of types of leaders and executives. She is highly effective with senior executives who wish to grow professionally and fine-tune their leadership behaviors and skills at work. Amy is also a strong “turnaround coach,” getting sustained positive results with executives who need to hear hard (and often personally confronting) messages about behavioral styles. She has a skill for giving those messages in a clear, unequivocal manner, backing it up with firm support, encouragement, and practical ways to make the needed changes happen. As one client said: “When she tells you ‘I’m on your side, I’ll help you get there’ you know she means it.” Experience: Prior to moving to Australia, Amy worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California in Human Resources, and as a consultant with Jorgensen and Associates in Los Angeles. Upon moving to Australia in 1986, she joined Price Waterhouse in the Management Consulting Division. As an Associate Director, she headed up the Organisational Development division of the consulting practice. In 1989 she started up her own specialist consulting practice: Powell Human Resource Development. Her work included design of organisational climate surveys (in conjunction with Macquarie Universtiy) 360-degree feedback instruments, executive development systems, mentoring programs, self-development guidelines for executives, as well as training and development for executives. In 1996, Amy started Development Partners, one of Australia’s first executive coaching businesses, in response to her clients’ need to help their most senior executives achieve significant and sustainable change through tailored, one-on-one leadership development programs. For the past 13 years, Development Partners has consistently maintained a top-tier client base in Australia’s most respected companies. Clients will attest to the impact of the coaching and the consistency of the results achieved. Academic Qualifications and accreditations: Amy has a BA (Major in Communications, minor in psychology) and an MBA from California State University, Los Angeles She was the program chair for Catalyst 2009 – An Australian summit for Executive Coaches and the organisations that use them.
